Maximize Your Comfort With Nitronox

Nitronox is a delivery system that provides a gas mixture of 50% nitrous oxide and 50% oxygen. It is used to help ease discomfort during some medical and aesthetic procedures. If you experience any discomfort or anxiety during your treatment, you are able to inhale the gas mixture through a mask or mouthpiece, as needed. You’ll be fully awake, responsive and breathing on your own throughout the entire process.

Proven Safe and Effective

Nitrous oxide and oxygen have been used for over 100 years and have a long-standing safety record. It is commonly used in hospitals during labor and delivery, post-surgery units, pediatric units and dental offices.

How does Nitronox work?

The Nitronox system only delivers the gas mixture through a mask or a mouthpiece when you inhale, giving you control of how often and how much gas is needed. After several deep breaths, , you will start to feel more relaxed-this is because the gas triggers the release of the body’s natural endorphins and dopamine. Inhalations can be administered on an as-needed basis throughout your treatment. Once you stop inhaling, the feeling will wear off within 5-10 minutes, without lingering  side effects from the gas.

What does it feel like?

Most patients report feeling relaxed and euphoric. Slight tingling in the hands, feet, arms and legs are also very common.

Will this put me to sleep?

The device always administers 50% nitrous oxide AND 50%oxygen, ensuring that you are receiving a safe amount of nitrous oxide. The ratio is not strong enough to put you to sleep. In fact, it is classified as an analgesic (meant for pain relief) not an anesthetic (meant to put you to sleep).

Does nitrous oxygen eliminate pain?

Nitrous oxide and oxygen does not eliminate pain. It is intended to take the edge off, help you relax and manage discomfort.

How fast does Nitronox take effect and last?

Most patients will feel the effects of nitrous oxide within a minute or two. As with any medication, the effects may vary from patient to patient. For some, it will work great and for others, it may either not be enough or they will not like how it makes them feel. Once you stop inhaling the gas mixture it will be out of your system within 5-10 minutes. You will start feeling normal almost immediately; however it is important that you speak to your provider on when you can resume your normal activities.

Are there risks or side effects associated?

Nitrous oxide is a “drug” with side effects and contraindications for use. Although the treatment is generally well-tolerated, possible side effects include: nausea, vomiting, excessive sweating, euphoria, excitement, deep sedation, drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, dysphoria, amnesia, and headaches. These should subside once use is discontinued. You should discuss all considerations with your treatment provider and follow their specific instructions.
